Gamma radio removal help?

My 92 Audi 100S Gamma Tape deck-radio is broken and I want to remove it for
repair.  How is this done?  It turns on without a code input sequence (my code
card was lost long ago).  If I remove it will I have to know the code to
reactivate it after installation, or will it still just turn on with no code
input? Does anyone know whether you can buy componenets for this radio (the
vol control is quirky... turns off the radio as you turn the knob and go
through the detents).
