oil consumption

Thought I'd chime in with another data point...

Car: 91 200qw (20v turbo)
Purchased: 11-96
Miles since purchase: 22k
Oil since purchase: Mobil 1 15w50 and 10w30
Previous oil history: unknown
Oil consumption: so little I haven't even noticed any

I believe it was largely dealer service in Boston, MA.
Anybody have any input on what type of oil was likely used?

As for the 87 Coupe (NG) with 112k miles, the last 53k being anything
but easy :-)
consumption has been less than a quart between oil changes about every
3k miles.
It has been filled almost exclusively with synth since it's been in my
care.

One characteristic which I've always found curious was it's tendency to
emit a loud clacking sound after a hard drive with a lot of engine
braking. At first I thought it was dry lifters, but over time I
realized it was louder and more substantial a sound than a lifter
ticking, and there didn't seem to be 10 things clacking, just one, based
on the frequency of the clacks. So it's either one really dry lifter,
or something else, like the vacuum pump rod? Anyway, I try to avoid
lots of heavy engine braking. The clacking will persist for a while
after a return to more sane driving, which I assume allows things to
cool down. I sometimes get the same sound after the engine hasn't been
run for an extended period.

Just my .02 worth...
