I'm not sure your car has the same setup as the 5K/100/200, but...
I think your first item of business should be to check the recirculation
flap behind the glovebox. The spring which holds it closed is probably
broken. This is a common failure and causes the exact problem you
describe...severe fogging to the point where you have to pull over.
If the spring is broken there is a good chance you can reuse it and don't
need to go shopping.
Only the last coil broke off mine (89 100).
USing needle nose pliers I was able to twist the next coil in line into the
hook shape needed to reattach it. It's been holding for two years now.
