Bad MC
Nope... I'm not talking about a new rap group... or about a poor host
for an awards ceremony... I'm talking about the clutch master cylinder.
:-)
1. What are the symptoms of a bad one?
2. What fluid does this take, and where is the reservoir located?
3. About how long do they last? My QSW has 95k miles on it... is it
about time for a new one? If so, what's a good price?
I ask because I have a bit of a leak underneath the QSW, and I think it
may be the clutch MC. (Although, I checked this morning, and there
wasn't any drops underneath... hmmm... is there such a thing as an
intermittent leak?)
I recently changed the gearbox and diff fluid, and I thought that maybe
it was one of the drain/fill plugs not tight enough, but when I dropped
by the mechanic's shop, we checked and it wasn't that (at least it
didn't appear to be... we tightened everything up just to be sure...).
Also keep in mind that sometimes I have a hard time getting the car into
gear... most notably first and sometimes second, although in other gears
also...
I have noticed that if I am in neutral (in my driveway, or at a
stoplight), then go to put it into first gear, it is very notchy and
stiff. If I take it out of first, back to neutral, then back into first,
it goes in smoothly. What's the deal with that? Does this mean that my
MC is shot...or on its way out? Does it go in smoothly because the
second time around it now has enough pressure/fluid (or something like
that)?
Thanks in advance.
P.S. All those that I haven't been able to respond to (for various past
messages etc.)... sorry... life has been out of control for me lately.
I'll try as soon as I can. To the rest... sorry for the extra BW.
