AudiFest 98, GPS, and navigator need
OK, looks like I'm going, and it looks like I volunteered myself to head up
the NE region. In the interests of it not being a mess, would interested
individuals contact me via email so I can get an idea of the # and
locations of people? Also, who's in charge of the whole shameel, or is it
just a each-region-is-on-its-own freeforall?
Secondly, I'm going to be in need of a navigator for the trip. Anyone from
outside the US considering it would be welcome to ride with me, since you
won't have a car. I assume anyone diehard enough to go will want to take
their own baby :) I'm fairly close to Logan. Benefits are that you get to
play with the toys...my laptop w/ a soon-to-arrive GPS unit and Delorme
mapping software(which functions as a moving map w/GPS.) You also get a
semi-free ride, though it would be nice to split gas costs with someone!
Found the 'ol Rat Shack CB unit in a box in the cellar, along with a
magnetic mount(perfect!) GPS unit is going to be attached to a "modified"
Thule roofrack side-thing, since performance is 1000x better if the unit is
higher up and has an unobstructed view. Will look kinda goofy, but oh
well...
Does anyone remember when the US military is going to turn off the GPS
"civilian goof-factor"? I know I heard it was going to be soon, but I can't
remember the date. I think they gave up when everyone went to differential
GPS :)
