Spring

Audi Heads-
I am still trying to figure out "clunking" noise in rear right side of
my 84 4ks.  Checked nut at top of strut tower (thanks Bob myers)
and the rubber looks ok too (thanks Alex K.).  There is a spring 
attached to the bottom of the tower underneath the car with a bolt/
nut to add more tension which appears loose and could be the clunker.
I slid it back as far as it could go but the spring is still loose.
I'm dumb so #1 what is this part/what does it control/do?
                   #2 As the spring is really "tired" can I get replacement	
		easily at dealer or elsewhere?
