Re: cracked winshield (Insurance Info)

I talked to my insurance proffessor today, and here's what (not much) I
found out on the subject:

On a cracked windshield it depends more on a state to state basis on
whether or not an insurer will do this. This is mostly do because in some
states, it is required for the insurer to replace the windshield regardless
of deductable. Deductable does not matter in these states; it's just covered.
I heard someone say this is law in Kentucky. But, maybee premiums, on
average, are higher in KY due to this. I don't know. But, some states do
think of it as a safety concern and therefore it is fully covered.

If you are in a state where this is not a law, or if your windshield is
just pitted, and not actually cracked...this may depend on your insurer. But,
I'd be willing to bet that 90% of the time it's not going to be covered. But
then again that will change from insurer to insurer, and may be dependant on
your deductable. If you have 0 deductable, it may very well be covered.*

    * WARNING - Ralph was telling me that he was basically "black listed" for
using this prevelage with 0 deductable insurance. So, I'd suggest not using
it unless you have a real or substantial claim.

That's about all the info on that subject. We talked a bit about why
insurance is targeting SUV's now and charging them higher premiums. That was
quite interesting as it seems it is not really insurance companies that are
doing this; it's really legislators that are pushing for it.
