Error 2142 from ECU...

Hi!

200t at it again! Reproducable error: driving gently getting vehicle
to about 115km/h, revs just under 3k, give very small amount of gas to
take RPM just over 3k and the "check engine" light comes on, back off
the gas and the light goes out, give very small touch on accellerator
and the light comes on again and will stay on while slight pressure
is given. Light will also come on when hard gas is given from stand
still. Also, driving along at around the 110-120km/h range and taking
a gently turn will start the process. Pulling the codes after this
has happened reveals a 2142 error code, which according to documentation
of the MC engined cars with the pre-MAC14 ECU indicates "Defective
sensor or sensor wiring". What is the test procedure for verifying
operation of the sensor? How to check wiring for the sensor? The
car has been booked into the Audi Centre service division for next
week, this decision being made after getting pissed off with the
amateurish natures of local mechanics who claim Audi, VW and Porsche
expertise, these including the biggest Audi agents in South Africa.
I hope Audi Centre will be able to diagnose what is causing the faults,
they'd better since they're gonna charge $35 to give me a quote!
Actually, all this has been happening after I got the car back from
them last week and they adjusted the CO on a car with faulty exhaust
system and did not disconnect the crank breather lines before doing the
CO test as the service manuals indicate.

I'd appreciate any help on how to test the knock sensor and its wiring.
What else could cause the ECU to indicate a 2142?

TIA.

G.
