4K belts

Hello:
       My 4K quattro has had the same chronic problem.  The squeal was coming
from the alternator belt which must be tightened tighter than I would normally
think was good for it.  The car has a fairly powerful alternator which is
driven by an old style "V" belt.  Most manufacturers (including Audi) are now
using serpentine belts, and I think that slippage on high output alternators
is part of the reason.  Once my fear of overtightening was overcome the
problem has gone away.
