full-size spare in an A4

Hate to be so droll, but I have determined that the OEM alloy fits in the
hole in the trunk of my A4. Audi was even kind enough to supply a shorter
hold-down knob for the alloy. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit through the
center of the wheel. My guess is that the hole in the '97 (sport 16")
wheels was larger OD? Too arcane?

BTW, I think the hold-down knob for the A4 is much superior to anything BMW
offers...
