brake bleeder (long)
for my pressure bleeder i chose the simplest and least expensive components.
as a bike factory i have lots of presta style valves with threaded mounts
which i scavenged from worn out tubular tires (why did i save these?).i took
three of these. one i left intact and the other two had the core removed. on
the base of one of the coreless valves i silver brazed a 1/4"diameter, 1"
long stub of brake line- it could also be soldered with a silver content
solder and a 40 watt iron-. from the kitchen i took an empty and clean
glass mayo jar with a metal lid and good and clean gasket. onto the lid i
drilled holes and mounted two of my valves, using cut pieces of old inner
tubes as gaskets. the one intact valve was mounted with its stem above the
lid and the valve with the added stub was mounted with its stem inside the
lid. to the inside stem was added a length of clear vinyl tubing just long
enough to reach the bottom of the mayo jar with the lid tightened. the jar
can be filled 3/4 full with brake fluid and the jars screw top with valves,
tightened securely. for convenience i added a screw-on presta-schraeder
adapter to the outside presta valve. thats my air line connection. using a
spare master cylinder cap from a replaced 4ks master cylinder (now why
didn't i throw that out?) i drilled a hole and installed the remaining
coreless valve with the stem outermost. i removed the existing master
cylinder cap and added my new modified cap very tightly. between the 1" stub
on the mayo jar and the coreless valve on the master cylinder cap, i ran a
length of clear vinyl hose. the hose fit was tight enough that i had to
immerse the ends in boiling water to stretch them over the stub and the
valve stem! add 10-15 lbs pressure to the schraeder adapter on the mayo
jar, unscrew your bleeders and you're in business. the only mod i thought of
was to add another valve to the master cylinder cap with the stem outermost
and the valve core intact. this could be used to bleed off the air in the
connecting vinyl tubing as the pressurized fluid starts moving. i merely
loosened the master cylinder cap and then retightened it.
