Radiator Fan Motor
Gary,
I had a problem with my radiator fan motor abt. a year ago. It comes
out with a bit of difficulty, but the trick on mine was that the
bolt holding the fan onto the motor had a left hand
thread.
Once you have the motor out, bend the tags back an pull the inner
out. Some noise can be caused by the brushes if they are starting to
go.
You should be able to replace the brushes, but the main culprit is
normally the earth connection from the brush holder / stator to the
body.
I chucked the Bosch bits out and rewired / crimped a thick wire on
and earthed it properly. The original one on mine cracked and
come loose from the casing causing the motor to slow down and start warming
up all the connections. Symptoms was a sudden loss of aircon and a
steady rise in temperature.
Whatever you do, do it quickly!
Most auto electrical places should be able to redo bearings, brushes etc. to
get it sorted out. The motor is very basic once it is out of the Audi
parts holding it toghether. My total cost for repair on the fan motor came to
about $56.
