Re: Removing rear shock from spring
>>I'm changing the springs/shocks on my '87 5ktqw to H&R/Boge. I started
with the rears since they're easier. I have the whole spring/shock
assembly in a vise with spring compressors on the springs. I don't have
the special tool 3017A shown in Bentley.
Any tips on removal of the top nut without spinning the shock piston? I
may have to resort to a ViseGrip on the shock piston. My 17mm wrench is
not thin enough to fit in there so I'm stuck with using a socket.<<
isn't there a hex socket (allen head) in the end of the strut piston?
having just btdt last night with my coupe's stuff, I also found the top
spring mount a handy place to put a big channel lock plier to get the
nut started turning. Of course your car is quite different than mine,
ymmv.
