Thanks for the offer - I've found an original, new, boxed O2 sensor for
GBP69.50 - a 52% discount off list.  At least some of Audi's dealers
realise that Audi's spares prices are ludicrous.

And, thanks to Scott Mo's help and web page, I know that the Motronic is
pointing _BOTH_ fingers at the O2 sensor - it's logged out 2342 & 2341.

(Is there any significance in the order?  I have a Motronic manual for
 the RR - our version of the 1B - and it says to fix the problems in
 the order they're logged out.)

I've also stripped out the cover, filter and air box.  The top and back
of the engine are clean and dry - all hopes for an easy solution to the
oil usage problem have evaporated.

Anyone have the torque for the four bolts that hold the strut brace?
