Yes, you are correct, the stock 6 spoke, 5 lug 15 X 6 inch alloy wheels
did change when the G60 calipers were introduced in 1986, I wish this
were not the case, as I have a set from an 85 5000T that I thought were
sold to a friend with an 87 5000TQ with G60's. :-(
I am glad you brought up this subject, I actually posted something about
this several years ago, but I forgot all about it.... :-(
I just tested this theory out on my 1988 5000TQ with the G60's. The
early 85 5000T wheel 447-601-025B only has about 0.050 clearance between
the outer edge of the caliper and the inner portion of the wheel. I
suspect that during braking the outer part of the caliper which rides on
guide pins can flex/move enough to contact the wheel. The later wheels
447-601-025 "D" that came on the 1988 5000TQ look identical on the
outside to the earlier 85 5000TQ wheels, but the inside design changed
the way the spokes connect to the wheel rim. These later wheels have
more like 0.150 to 0.200 inches of clearance.
Anybody want a set of early 84-85 5000T wheels CHEAP?
