RE: turbo oil filter

I believe the oil-cooled-only turbo quattros have the two filters, the extra turbo oil filter is needed due to the larger volume of oil that is required to control the temp of the oil-cooled turbo. All stock US-spec ur-qs have the second filter and the oil-cooled turbo. The WC turbo requires a smaller volume of oil, needed mainly for lubrication of the bearing and does not require the second turbo oil filter. 86 may have been the cut-over year for the WC turbo, not sure on this point. I think all were WC by 87.

hi,
getting ready to change my oil, and this is the first time i've
done it myself on the audi. everytime i look up oil filters, the books
always show two numbers, one listed for "engine" and one listed for
"turbo." these are both listed under the 5000 cs turbo model. are
there two separate filter replacements that i must do? thanks.
