how the #$&% do you get the slave cylinder off (5KTQ)

Well I have reached my first prob. so far in getting the tranny out of the
5KTQ.  The clutch slave cylinder seems to not want to come out.  I removed the
"rod" thats seemed to lock the cylinder in place and I thought that is should
just slide back and out of its hole.  Well I seem to be wrong. What is the
trick.  once again the list has become an invaluable tool.  Thanks for the
