For me, fear of having to 'do the job again' negated any potential savings from welding the old manifold. I went with the 2-piece and got better performance and peace of mind as well as no more phat phat phat.

 As I am the lastest to be the proud owner of a cracked manifold I am
searching out experiences with welding the manifold. My mechanic buddy
is not fond of the idea but speculated that with proper prep work and
preheating the manifold it might be possible to weld one up and not have
it crack again.
 He was also very quick to remind me of the incredible difficulty in
removing one from a urq. His question was simple. Do I want to go
through all the trouble a second time should a weld not hold up? This is
something I am well aware of having spent the last two weekends removing
mine.
