I'm familiar with these.  They use these on pickup truck shell 
rear windows.

Actually the wire type shouldn't need to be forced like that.  Are you 
removing the wire clip before prying them off?  You're supposed to unclip 
the wire, then slide it out.  The strut should come off easily after this. 
These are the types I've seen on my Audis.
