Disc brake kits
Jouko,
I've got no affiliation or connection, honest, but once again I'd direct
this discussion to a pretty exhaustive analysis of "Big Red" merits at:
http://www.ultimategarage.com/bigbrake.html
Also, see the "Mov'it" mfr. site in Europe at:
http://www.movit.de/home.htm , where you'll see that this is not a novel
idea: they're fitting these things to everything from Alfas to 355s to
Suburbans to Impalas.
The 993tt brake kits for the A4 are listed at $2200(for 16" wheels) to $2450
(for 17" wheels) from Ultimate Garage. This guy is the newly appointed US
distributer who is selling them directly while he puts together a dealer
network. The price is likely to go up afterwards.
The Mov'it guys sound like they know what they're doing. Issues they
address include: Why Porsche/Brembo vs Wilwood?; How do you adapt a caliper
designed to mount on the leading edge to the trailing edge?; Master
cylinder, equalizer valve requirements, etc.
Finally, in the US, I believe the price for 993tt brakes which are a direct
bolt on for Carreras is more like $5-600 each. I just missed a pair someone
was selling on the NE Porsche list for $550/pr. Looking at Porsche tuner
sites, this is a common upgrade.
