Re: Audi 90S wont go over 60 MPH
I had the same thing happen to me when I sold my '93 90S. I was taking the
future buyer of the car on a test drive and he was at the wheel. He explained to
me, while driving, that the car was going as quickly as he hoped. We switched, I
drove it home and then took it up on the ramps. Sure enough one of the cat's was
making a horrible sound. So off to the mechanic, I called Audi, my car was just
out of warranty, but in typical Audi fashion you bought it now go away. So I
really didn't want to pay the $1000 plus for a cat and part of the exhaust the
cat had destroyed. What happened is: the mechanic showed me, is that at high
speed driving the mixture of extreme heat in the cat, mixed with back pressures,
ie high speed down shift, caused a failure in the cat. Several of the veins in
the cat had become dislodged and made their way back to the muffler where it tore
some more things loose. Anyway he cut the cat out replaced with an aftermarket,
the car drove as good as new, sounded the same, and I sold it the next week to
the same guy who drove it. Great car, I miss it but I don't miss the culture of
Audi dealers, parts, and the rest of the nonsense of owning a great driving car
that is over engineered and backed by the worst dealers in North America. I only
lived 10 minutes away from their corporate offices in Auburn Hills, MI but they
were like a million miles away in common sense. I have driven VW's, and Audi's,
learned to drive with them, I have slept in them...., and have lived in both
Canada and the U.S. with them, but I will not, can not, buy another one Sam I am.

ps I know I will, but my therapy is going so well owning a MB.
