Thanks for your suggestions.  The exhaust backpressure was surprisingly
low- almost nothing at idle to less than 3 psi at full throttle and high
revs in 3rd gear.  I don't think that would cause any problems.  I
pulled the codes, and all was well.  I put in some STP also, so I'll see
what that does.  The hose from the injector cooling fan is torn, but I
think I can rig up a new one cheap.  By the way, the fan does come on
now.  Next step is to take out the Michelin Man and check him for
cracks.  I'm afraid of what I'll find.
