won't achieve anything by turning the distributor so why bother tearing
that plate off?  Maybe that's why it's there...

The only thing you will gain by moving the dist. is the car probably
won't start!!  The dist. can only be set for static timing (with the
flywheel at TDC, line up the rotor with the mark on the dist. body, with
the engine turned off).  There is about a +/-6 (I think) degree window
for this static timing or the car won't start. Once the engine starts
the computer takes over and adusts timing.

BUT if you change the cam timing you will have to reset the static dist.
timing since the dist. is run off the camshaft or the engine won't
start.
