I remember reading somewhere that you have to reduce (or increase) your speed by 3 MPH per second in order to avoid the radar getting a fix on your speed.  With instant-on, it's nearly impossible, even if you're expecting the tag.

The best way to avoid instant-on is to be a dozen or so carlengths behind another person that's going the speed you want to travel.  As he gets tagged, you should have enough warning to slow down.  Remember, though, that cops can see your brakelights (or the front end dip if you have a soft suspension) and therefore know that you're running radar.  When I see the long arm approaching, I use the handbrake, which doesn't peel off the speed nearly as quickly, but does it fairly discreetly, since it doesn't flash the lights.

I've read plenty of stuff about Rocky Mountain Radar Jammer and its ilk, but does anybody have any real-life stories they want to share?  Is the protection level it allows worth the cost?

BTW, my detector was stolen recently and I'm ready to get a new Valentine One.  My last detector, an older Bel, cost $175 and paid for itself on at least three occasions in its lifetime.
