I heard it explained this way:

Motor oils and other auto lubes are designed with lots of different
characteristics in mind. The end result is a compromise between them all.
What makes an oil protect a motor at operating temp might not do so good
in a cold engine, and what makes an oil protect an engine on startup is
not necessarily the best for a motor that is running.

So, my take on those types of commercials is: If you are going to subject
your motor to the same conditions portrayed in the commercial, then the
product is what you need. However, if you are going to run your motor
with oil in it, and sand out of it, then stick with something you know
works.

Who knows, I personally don't want to find out that bad.
