I have fixed these two or three times (different cars!).  Once I know
all I did was abrade the pin, roughening it enough to grab the gear. 
Another time the gear was slightly cracked, I abraded and used an
adhesive - probably a structural anaerobic, but I bet a tiny dab of
Loctite would work.  Cleaning is very important for the adhesive method
to work.  I probably used alcohol, afraid acetone might eat the gear.
