You clearly have not looked under the hood of the 98 Passat... it is
identical to the A4 setup - logitudinal engine.  The Syncro versions
(really the Audi quattro system with T*rsen and EDL) are only be
offered with the 2.8 30V Audi V6 engine at the moment.
