Driveshaft R&R '86 5KCSTQ - Comments
Hi All:
Replaced the front half-shafts this weekend. Easy job with the exception
of gaining access with a torque wrench to tighten the inner CVJ bolts
to spec. The procedure is as stated in the Bentley although I did
not find it necessary to separate the ball-joint from the strut housing.
I went full lock left/right when working on the respective sides to
get enough clearance. Also, I believe Hayes says to remove the front
exhaust pipe on turbo equipped models. Not true, there was plenty
of room around the exhaust although I suppose that would have given
me more room for the torque wrench.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. The grease in the inner CVJs was
original. Looked like something you would see at LaBrea(sp?) tar pits
- nasty!
