'84 4000S, 4 cyl: normal operating temp and oil pressure
Hello,
If you own a 4-cyl 4000S automatic, please let me know what the typical
behavior of your temp semnsors is. My water temp sensor stays right in the
middle when cruising (at 75-80 mph) but goes way up, to about 3/4 of the
full scale when idle, which is the point at which the radiator fan comes
on. In stop-n-go traffic, it even climbs a bit above the second highest
mark. Does this sound high? I recently drove in a friend's CGT of the same
year and in that car, the temp gauge always reads in the lower portion of
the scale. My oil temp reaches about 130 when cruising and is lower when
idling.
BTW, Iam also curious about the oil pressure --- I noticed that over the
last six months or so the gauge readings (warm engine, cruising at 80
pmh) have decreased from about 4.5 , which is what they were when I bought
the car 4 years ago, to about 3.8 -- 4.0 on average. I have about 280,000
mi on this car.
Thanks, Andrei
