U.S. urq VIN

Does anyone know what a VIN of WAUDC0855CA900087 would mean for an urq
in the U.S.?  Talking with Jeff G., this car was built in August of '81,
so it is the first of the '82 model year.  He theorizes that it is either
an import, or was an Audi test vehicle.  I was told that the car was
bought from the dealer in 1984...no history before that.
