Hi Frank,
This is the news that Audi AG has released for the 1999 model year:
Audi 1999 model year
Audi's 1999 model year starts in August. The new model year will see a
broader range of models within the individual model series, and also
optical and technical refinements to specific models.
All Audi telephones and car mobile phones will now be supplied by the
manufacturer Nokia. The Audi provision for mobile phone, another new
feature, means that most established makes of mobile phone can be used in
Audi cars in conjunction with a convenient hands-free device, radio muting
and a recharging station.
Audi A3
The successful Audi A3 greets the new model year with new door handles and
a broader range of paint colours and wheels. The adoption of the ergonomic
door handles as used on the Audi A6 means that there is now no door lock on
the passenger's side on models fitted with central locking and operated by
radio remote control (standard on the Audi A3 Ambiente). The body colour
Mineral Grey metallic, available as an option at extra charge, and in
particular the new 7Jx16 inch aluminium cast wheels in an exclusive
double-spoke design from quattro GmbH, create further scope for visual
diversity. There is now a grey-tinted strip in the windscreen in place of
the green strip. The interior has been upgraded with silicone-cushioned
grab handles on the ceiling and velour floor mats at the rear as standard.
The Audi A3 Ambition is now available with the interior fabric Staccato in
the colour yellow/onyx at no extra charge, extending the range of possible
combinations.
Audi Cabriolet
The model with the 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine is being withdrawn from
the start of the new model year. The engine range now comprises three
spark-ignition versions, the Audi Cabriolet 1.8, 2.6 and 2.8, and of course
the 1.9 TDI. The range of wheels and tyres likewise sees a few changes: the
new 7Jx15-inch wheel with a 12-spoke design replaces the 10-spoke wheel.
The 7Jx16-inch wheel with the double-spoke design replaces the optional
Competition wheel design. The popular Sun Line packages remain available
for the Audi Cabriolet.
Audi A4 saloon/A4 Avant
The current extensive range of Audi A4 and A4 Avant models remains almost
unchanged. The combination of V6 2.5 TDI engine, quattro permanent
four-wheel drive and 5-speed tiptronic that is well-established on the Audi
A8 and A6 is now also available as the Audi A4 2.5 TDI quattro. With peak
torque of 310 Nm across an engine speed range of 1,500 to 3,200 min-1, the
engine has a superlative power characteristic and demonstrates impressive
flexibility, while at the same time being economical and kind on the
environment: the fuel consumption of the A4 2.5 TDI quattro with tiptronic
averages 8.5 l/100 km (overall fuel consumption according to 93/116/EC),
and this car clocks up a top speed of 214 km/h. Versions with tiptronic are
available with the 3-spoke design tiptronic leather sports steering wheel
at extra charge. With this option, the driver can change gear manually
without needing to take his hands off the steering wheel. A new line of
Recaro sports seats with very pronounced side cushions, a manually extended
thigh rest, power adjustment of the seat height and angle and a
power-operated 2-way lumbar support that will appeal to more sports-minded
drivers is a new item in the range of optional extras.
The asymmetrically folding rear seat back and the through-loading facility
with bag complete the range.
Audi A6
The standard specification is extended with a new radio remote control with
separate tailgate release function and velour floor mats for the rear. As
on the A4, there are new Recaro sports seats with power-operated
longitudinal adjustment as an optional extra. This package includes an
asymmetrically folding rear seat back and the through-loading facility with
bag. A new version of the A6 Avant comes equipped with the 1.8 litre
five-valve engine developing 92 kW, and costs DM 55,980. 4-speed automatic
transmission can be supplied as an option, instead of the standard 5-speed
manual gearbox. The child's bench seat, which is installed in the trunk of
the Audi A6 Avant facing the rear, is now available. It is suitable for two
children above the age of 3, up to a height of 1.30 metres or a weight of
36 kilograms.
Audi A8 and S8
A new feature for the A8 and S8 is the new 3-spoke tiptronic leather sports
steering wheel. It now allows the driver to change gear in the tiptronic
mode without taking his hands off the steering wheel. The body colour
Santorini Blue pearl-effect is new, and Hibiscus Red pearl-effect is now
available instead of Ruby Red pearl-effect.
The equipment items and data quoted refer to the model range available in
Germany.
