Have you considered one of these outfits that arranges for European delivery
cars?  You don't actually go to Europe to pick it up, their agents do it for
you.  You have to pick it up personally, however, at a US port of entry.
One benefit is lower price, but the other is an ability to order the car
optioned a la carte, e.g., any interior/exterior color combination, delete
sunroof, etc.  I investigated this a few years back when contemplating
buying a new car:  checked some references etc.  Seemed intriguing.  They
advertise in the Sunday NY Times, but I have some contact info in a file
somewhere if anyone is interested.  Against the unlikely day that I ever buy
a new car. No interest or affiliation.
