'87 5ktqw driveline backlash?
Could it be that the fuel cut-off is cutting back on as the RPM's drop
below 1,500? Could also be the air flow meter flap binding a little.
It couldn't hurt to clean the oil, gum, and varnish that has accumulated
throughout the yars and recentering the flap if it is off-center. Are
all your lifters quiet? Bad/worn lifters could resuld in a rough idle.
