Living here in Arizona, I was surprised when this first surfaced a few years
ago since I didn't remember ever reading about it in the paper and figured a
story like this would've made the front page.  Being blessed with an excess
of curiosity, I called around to the local police departments in the area as
well as the county and state highway patrols ... needless to say, they all
confirmed that it never happened.

Of course, anybody with the means to get his hands on a JATO unit probably
has government connections and was no doubt on some sort of secret
undercover mission so it's no surprise that the authorites would deny it
ever happened ... SOP.  ;^)
