Here in Arizona, a dried-up bed of rocks is called a river and a river with
water flowing in it is called a flood ... that said, unless you're a local
and know the road, attempting to cross one that's flooded can be dangerous.
I speak from experience, having watched a friend's VW Golf get washed down a
river after we got stuck in the mud under some then ankle-deep water ... 15
minutes later, though, it was two feet deep and by that point, the current
was strong enough to dislodge his VW and float it 100 yards downstream!
Amazingly, after he recovered the car 10 days later, he was able to get it
running again for $100 worth of used parts.
Anyway, it sounds like Anton had a great trip and I'm jealous since the
impending house purchase means that we're not taking a vacation this year...
