RE: 86 4KCSQ gas pedel - what holds it to the cable?
BTDT recently on the '85 4kSQ ... should be the same. It turns out that the
linkage is held in place by two foam rubber "bobbins"! These things
deteriorate over time until the cable drops free ... usually when you are
expecting to have WOT ... :( On my car there is a heavy metal piece that is
coupled to the pedal itself, and the throttle cable plugs into the heavy
metal piece. I'm sure the metal hunk is there to improve the pedal feel
somehow ... you could probably reassemble the throttle cable without it. I
recommend disconnecting the cable at the throttle body to give enough play
to work down in the pedal area. Once you get in there it is not too
difficult to poke everything back together ... I replaced the "bobbins"
first, then installed the weight on the end of the throttle cable, and
finally plugged the weight into the pedal.
FYI, when the cable first became disconnected I managed to stick everything
back together and hold it in place with a tie-wrap. This fix held for a
couple of weeks until I could procure replacements and put it all together.
Believe it or not, the parts book does not call for any other washers or
snap rings in the assembly. It looks like both the throttle cable and the
metal hunk have provisions to have snap rings installed ... I went to a
local hardware store and was not able to find snap rings, so I just put it
back the way it was. Hey, if the new ones last as long as the originals the
car isn't likely to be my problem when they go again ... :)

OBTW, the QTC has exactly the same configuration. If anyone has any numbers
or sources for snap rings that will work here I'd appreciate hearing back
... my '83 ur-q still has the original bobbins ...
