Thanx for the suggestions folks.  I had thought of the velcro Idea, however
the bottom of the mats are strips of rubber/cloth, rubber/cloth and so on. 
I did not think that it would stick, but stapleing them.........  now there
is an idea I did not think of and would work great!

As for the intake, the car accelerates better when the grate is out (not
necessarly faster, but smoother).  But considering one listers BTDT, I am
not sure I will remove it.
