Re: V8 antenna

     All;

I have a '90V8Q but the wiring must be completely different. On mine
the rear quarter panel antenna is used exclusively by the cell phone
(hence the funny coax connector). The radio uses two (one front, one
back) antenna imbedded in the glass. The indash radio has two antenna
inputs and uses these to resolve multipath problems common in area
with a great number of tall buildings.

I discovered all this when I lost signal one time, I removed the head
and found that the previous owner had made a mess of things tring to
install a CD player. Once I cleaned up the wiring everything worked
     great again.

You might want to investigate the wiring from the head unit more
closely to confirm your cars' individual configuration. Mine also has
RF gain amplifer imbedded in the C pillar. I don't recall which side.
This is used to boost the signal from the imbedded antenna. If the
power gets interrupted you'll lose signal from the front or back and
the result would hinder the ability of the discrimination logic in the
     head unit.

I've replaced mine successfully with a generic electric one from
AutoZone, Lappen's, etc. I had to go to radio shack to get a coax
splicing device and a coax connector as the original <Schiff?> had the
antenna cable doing the full run to the radio without a connector.
