Interesting little task. Is this one of the RS-2 engines sold on
pallets by South Hereford Audi a while back?
I would think Audi UK or Audi AG would be the only likely sources
of wiring diagrams. Instrumentation might also be something of
an issue ...
The engine management is Motronic and basically similar to the 20V
ur-quattro. At a pinch, I suppose that would help - it's 21 pages for
the base set plus a couple of dozen for features, but you'd only need
the base for the engine management. Tim at "The Parts Department" (+44
1273 326189) seems to be able to get original factory documentation, but
it's not cheap - reckon on $150 for the RS-2 engine. I've never seen
anything in English, BTW, nor have I ever seen a wiring diagram. Colour
codes seem to differ between Europe and the USA, at least according to
the Bentley manuals I've seen. I suspect none of the US-oriented 20V
turbo stuff would be any use. My own approach would be to start at the
ECU connector with a 20V turbo (RR engine) European wiring diagram and
work from the wire colours.
The ur-quattro factory documentation is on common microfiche for the
WR and MB engines, but the 20V engine is on paper. Two manuals - one
for engine mechanicals and one for the electronics. I would expect
the RS-2 (given that fewer RS-2s than RRs were built) to be on paper
too.
I've had a good poke around a couple of RS-2s, and was not spectacularly
impressed - it seems closer to WR technology than MB/RR, despite the
sheer grunt coming out of it. Adam Marsden down at AM Cars currently
has one in the workshop, being prepped for sale.
How would instrumentation work? The RS-2 has analogue black-on-white
instruments that look somewhat similar to the wholly electronic
analogue instruments fitted to the special Swiss ur-quattro models.
If they work the same way, there's no speedometer cable and the
transmission pickup is used to drive the analogue speedometer.
