How sluggish? Especially with the automatic trans, you shouldn't expect
much acceleration before 4000rpm's........

This has happened to me for a while, I now expect it and plan on it; it
worries passengers quite a bit. It seems to me that the car has a bit
of trouble getting into first gear; it also has the same trouble with
reverse (or maybe a different problem...I don't normally put the car in
reverse and stomp on the gas). I'm going to bring it up next time I've
got the car in for service (=as soon as I can afford it, possibly a
month :{ )

Wow, 20mpg? I can't manage that in town with my 90 (a lighter car)! On
the freeway I can get 24 or so, but with city driving about 17-19 sounds
right.

Replacing the TCM seems to be Audi's way of dealing with this problem;
maybe there's an updated one or something. Anyway that probably wasn't
the problem. Could you describe your hesitation a little more? Does
the car shift when this happens?

Naaah, they're all like that! ..............?
