Hi Chris;
The fuel and temp guages are powered by a regulated power supply to
ensure a constant voltage to the guages. If this power supply has failed or
there is a bad connection, the guages will not work.
Don't know where the capacitor could have come from. It seems unlikely
it would fall out of a circuit board unless it wasn't soldered in ( remotely
possible) or things got REALLY hot in your dash (I think she would have
noticed :o)
Are there traces of solder on the capacitor leads?
