4kq diff stuff

oh yeah. the diffs.

My understanding:
Yours is not the only Q to run around w/ a whining rear. I'd expect the
howling to get pretty darn loud before any mechanical failure. I
thought my rear was beginning to cry, but further investigation proved
it was the rear wheel bearing (try driving 'round 25 mph and gently
swerving back and forth -- does the whine come and go?)

The rear doesn't hold much oil anyway, maybe a quart. Don't hold your
breath on the sythetic stuff to make a difference.

Although I doubt a rear from a syncro will do (depends on the model),
you'll probably have better luck locating a rear from a 4kq or 5kq if
the one near you isn't the same...

All in all, sounds like a decent deal for five clams!

>>ANd the rear diff has a whine. Didn't notice it on test drive.
Comes from rear Diff. Checked Fluid. VERY LOW. Added fluid, still
there. Will drain and fill with Synth. Then see. Am I screwed with
the
Diff. It is worn beyond help. How much do used units go for in good
shape. Will a Quantum Synchro unit be the same. Local U Pull it has one
there.
