Re: Fuel Mileage 12v V6
To: tyoung
Sorry to disappoint, Todd, my last tank (460 miles worth) netted around
26.x (3 or 4, can't remember) mpg in my '92 100 5-spd.This was mostly
highway (75 - 85 mph) with the windows and sunroof open, and actually
dropped down from the mid 27's because the last two days were run with the
A/C on and all windows and sunroof closed. I usually get around 24-25 mpg,
but it will drop down into the 23's when I consistently run the A/C or in
the dead of winter (I assume from the rigors of below freezing starts and
warmup cycles).
Man, oh, man, does my car LOVE the highway.

Just a little comparison data for all you 12v owners.
I've got a '93 90S (fwd only).
Particulars:
Weight: around 3000 lbs
5 speed manual
Quaker State semi-synthetic 10w30 engine oil
205/60R15 Dunlop D60A2 tires (stock wheels)
Original struts (I think)
almost 90K miles
Premium fuel (92 octane)
On my last trip from central Wisconsin, back to Minnapolis,
approximately 200 miles, plus 80 miles driving to and
from work, I managed to get 25.2 mpg. If I had filled
up right after the trip, the average would probably be
higher. This includes 60-85mph on the highway and
a high speed blast in town to lose 3 dorks in a rusted
out Chebby pickup. I figure highway mileage to be
right around 26mpg. If I kept it at 70mph or below,
would probably be 27mpg. We'll see if I can keep my
lead foot off the pedal for our trip to Ohio in a week.
For all you 100 and A6 owners, I believe your car is
a bit heavier, so your mileage may not be as good.
Around town I get 22-23mpg (I usually keep in the
2K - 3K range on the tach).
