Strut cartridge cap tool
<<Could someone please send me the name and phone number of the company that
sells the special tool for removing the strut cartridge cap while the
assembly is still in the car.>>
We use a very large set of "vice grips" with very long handles. You must
jack the car up slightly to get through the spring. But the method works.
We've also used an extremely large set of "Channel lock" pliers. We like the
"Vice grips" best because they can be locked and a cheater bar used on one leg
to help loosen the cap the first time.
The special tool only works with caps that are designed for use with it.
Every new set of cartridges come with a new cap, and I've yet to see one with
the right indention to allow the tool to be used.
As to the 100 p.s.i., just tighten the sh...., um, let's see, uh, STUFF outta
them lil suckers. If you do not tighten them enough, they will back off.
When that happens you will hear a clicking sound from whichever corner
loosened up. The click will be heard on acceleration, braking, and some
cornering applications. (Go ahead, ask me how we know.) If one starts to
click, tighten it again.
Oh, one other warning. Make sure you get the two washers on top of each
strut cart back in their proper places. If you don't you'll wind up with two
nasty looking bumps in your hood. (Go ahead, ask me how we know about
that....)
Bucksnortally yours,
