You should be using 10W-40 in the winter and 20W-50
in the summer.
First thing you have to do is remove the oil pressure
sending unit and put an oil pressure gauge on it,
pronto. If readings are normal, breath a sigh of
relief and change the offending indicator component.
If not, try running some 20W-50 to see if you get an
improvement in earl pressure.
The oil pressure sending unit is right next to the
oil filter, the oil pressure sender is the big one,
two wires (if I recall correctly), that screws in
vertically, easy to remove with a long faucet wrench.
The other single wire one is the oil pressure switch,
that's smaller and is mounted horizontally. The smallest
one in the area is the oil temperature sensor. The
part they all attach to is like a big thermostat
gooseneck, only it holds the oil cooler thermostat and
feeds the oil cooler.
Never changed the oil pump, but it didn't look very difficult
when I had the inspection pan off. The one V8Q that
I've heard about having oil pressure problems was
caused by a piece of the "honeycomb" baffles clogging
the oil pump screen filter.
Let us know what happens.
