As long as you're there, change it. You didn't mention what
kind of car it is, but the OEM clutch kit for my
'84 5KS was only $125. Clutches wear like rear brake
shoes on these cars. (not at all)

Tough to say without actually hearing/feeling it.
But, it does sound like it could be caused by bad
bushings, loose subframe mounts, or even a bad
ball joint. Tough to say. Get the car up on
jackstands with suspension hanging freely,
and start checking all the rubber with a BIG
screwdriver/tire iron. As long as the
tranny is out, drain the fluid, checking it
for metal shavings or other nasty things,
visually inspect the differential while you're
there. Wheel hop could also cause this type of
noise.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but it's the kind
of problem that could be caused by a mirad of defects,
making it impossible to diagnose with any certainty
unless one can drive the car. As for having to do
the job again...if it comes to that, you'll surprise
yourself at how fast it goes the second time around.
Practice makes perfect...
Good Luck
