If it isn't one thing...

Fellow Q-persons:

Finally got my car into the shop to have the A/C system repaired. Had the
used compressor from the parts car checked and installed along with a new
drier.

Checked the receipts from the previous meticulous owner and found
everything _except_ the receipt for the timing belt being replaced. Since
car is in the shop I called the PO to ask him to send a copy or just give
me the mileage...you know what's coming next...

He calls me back and says "I never replaced the timing belt on that car."

It now has 98,000 miles. ARRRGH!

Two thoughts immediately cam to mind: Oh SH*T! and How Could He Have Been
So Meticulous with the Maintenance and Never Do the Timing Belt?!? (Coulda
been worse, I know, but I wasn't expecting this)

To make a long story short, they did the timing belt and water pump, too.
Got the car back and there is a pronounced bearing sound from the idler
from the belt being too tight. Took it back, they got the adjustment right
but now the front crankshaft oil seal is weeping (it was dry as a bone
before). More ARRGH!

I don't dare take it back as they will probably screw it up if I tell them
to replace the seal, so that leaves me, the bentley and a long holiday
weekend to get mr. seal changed. 2 questions:

1. Where is the best place to get the VW 2079 and 2084 tool (anybody in
Atlanta want to let me borrow theirs?). 1(a). Steve B., you once posted a
friend that gave deep discounts on tools, is he still around?

2. Any BTDTs? Especially on the best way to pop the seal out. I
read/saved Doug Q's post about his adventures doing this a few months ago
but I'm looking for more.

Sorry this has been so long, but as always TIA for any help!
