     This sounds like sly wordplay, Phil. (You should consider
     public office ;) The design may be fine, but the
     implementation and manufacture isn't.  Parts that
     will be under stress should never be made out of
     cheap pot metal, period.  IF this part were made
     from stamped steel, or better yet, machined, we'd
     all be commenting on the longevity of the door
     handle design.

     Lubricating "occasionally" does prolong the life of
     the handle, but, most people don't lube their door
     handles at all, let alone once a month, as it's never
     been necessary on "any other car I've owned".  The
     Germans can make a good door handle when they want
     to, a friends 1954 Mercyless Benz 300 still has
     the original door handles, operating flawlessly,
     last time he lubed them most of us weren't even a
     gleam in our fathers eye.
