Voltage regulator on '87 5KCSTQ
Ok, I'll admit it at the get go, I've been lazy, and haven't
investigated this problem yet. I figure I'll throw the symtoms to the
list to see if there are an BTDT's.
I had the alternator re-built about a year ago in the '87 5kcstq, and it
has performed well, until just lately. Recently, at night, I've noticed
that my headl;ights were "pulsing", ever so slightly. I didn't hink
much of it.
Then, while on a trip, I got the volt warning light. I quickly switched
to channel 11 on the AC programer, to find 16.5V!! I shut the engine
down, and restarted it, back to 14.0v. The car got me home.
Now, I can see the dash/radio/all interior lights doing the pulsing
thing. I figure a bad voltage regulator. Sound likely? Now the
voltage regulator is internal to the alternator on these cars, right?
So should I just get the whole thig rebuilt again, or is it easy to
replace just the regulator?
I'll attack the bently tonight, but any advice would be greatly
appriciated.
