Re: ur-q front speaker extraction and replacement

Whether you have the old or new style dash, they're held in with two
screws from the bottom. You'll have to remove the glove boxes and the
outer air duct (which isn't tough) to get at them easily. You can reach
the screws with everything in place, but I wouldn't recommend it. The
grills pop off, but try not to gouge or bend them. The speaker basket
is one with the mounting assembly. Get out the dremel and remove as
much plastic as necessary, then glue in your replacement.

There are any number of "full range" 3.5" speakers that would probably
be nice. In my car, since I have my 6" woofers and 1" tweeters in the
doors, I installed one of my favorite midranges, the Vifa M10 MD 39 08.
I have these crossed over low and high and padded down, just to fill in
a little (and to use the unavoidable factory speaker location!). Their
resonance is around 120 Hz so I'm not sure you would want to run full
range sound into them. But they do handle a fair amount of power, maybe
50-60 watts, so at lower power they would probably not have any LF
problems.
